Political parties must unite in fight against terror: Venkaiah

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today called upon political parties to come together and demonstrate a strong resolve to fight terrorism, and accused the UPA Government of being "indifferent" on the issue of national security.

"The recent terror attack in Hyderabad was a reminder to us that political parties must unite and demonstrate their strong resolve to fight terrorism," he told reporters here. "We should refrain from giving any colour to terror. Our enemy is conspiring to weaken India, subvert system and use religion as a tool to divide and instigate the people."

Slamming the UPA Government over the twin blasts here that killed 16 persons, he said Manmohan Singh administration lacks political will to fight terrorism in the country. The ruling coalition at the Centre was "incompetent" and "indifferent" when it comes to dealing with the issue of national security, the former BJP President maintained.

The BJP leader accused Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde of politicising terrorism in the hope of reaping electoral harvest. Naidu said the Central and Andhra Pradesh Governments should tell people what action they took after getting intelligence inputs with regard to the blasts in Dilsukhnagar.

He criticised Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy for terming the intelligence inputs shared by the Centre as mere "general information".

"It was an immature and irresponsible statement from the Chief Minister, who failed to act on the inputs and avert the February 21 terror attack," Naidu said and sought to know why the CCTV cameras were not functioning at the blast sites.

Earlier, Naidu visited the blast sites and later went to hospitals, where the persons injured in the explosions are being treated, and enquired about their condition.
