'Harassed' by colleagues, teacher ends life

Upset over alleged character assassination by her colleagues, Sandhya Rani (30), a school teacher, committed suicide by consuming pesticide in front of her students here on Saturday morning.

Wife of late Lokesh and a resident of BMSri Nagar, she taught at the Government Higher Primary School at Arasanakere in Jayapura hobli. Sandhya was rushed to a
hospital by Headmaster Parashivamurthy in his car, where she passed away in the evening.

In a suicide note addressed to her mother, she has blamed her colleagues for her death.
She has stated that they constantly harassed her and had even lodged a complaint against her with the president of the School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC), while she has refuted their allegations.

Husband killed in accident

After losing her husband Lokesh, a private surveyor, in an accident four years ago, Sandhya was living with her eight-year-old son Gagan Kusum and mother Susheelamma.

Lokesh had been imprisoned in a case and was out on parole, when he was killed in a mishap.

Susheelamma has lodged a complaint with Jayapura police.
