Fresh proposal sought to construct Krishna Shastri memorial

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner R Narayanaswamy said except the family members of Krishna Shastri in Ambale, others are not worried over the memorial. “As a result, I have appealed to the MLA and Sahithya Parishat to give suggestions on where to construct the memorial.”

“In fact, the government had assured to release Rs one crore towards the construction of Krishna Shastri memorial in its budget in 2007. However, the funds were not released. In this background, I had written a letter to the government six months ago. Now, the government has replied back asking for new proposal.”

To a query on building for the taluk panchayat, the DC said the tenders have been invited. The taluk panchayat was shifted to a temporary building one year ago. However, the new building has not yet come up. “Earlier, we had the plan to construct taluk office at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. However, now it has been revised and increased to Rs 4 crore. Now the government has directed to complete the work in Rs 2 crore and later submit a fresh proposal. PWD has been asked to act in this regard,” he informed.

As per the assurance given by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to the people of Chikmagalur during his recent visit, he has directed to release additional funds for the completion of jail building. The file has been moved to Finance department. The work on the building will commence as soon as Rs 1.8 crore is released. The work on jail building was moving in snail’s pace for the past 28 years.
