Opening the doors to music

As a part of a three-city tour, with Bangalore being the first stop, the ‘Submerge Big Weekend’ recently took place at Chancery Pavilion, making it a one-stop destination for electronic dance music (EDM) fans in the City for two continuous nights.

There was some excellent programming and the crowds were more than happy with the line-up on both days. The first day started with Vinod Kannan and Rohit Barker, popular local acts. But the highlight of the evening was Laidback Luke, one of the most renowned DJs in the worldwide EDM circuit, who hails from the Netherlands. Playing an energetic set comprising of his progressive new material as well as some old mixes, he made sure there was no one standing still.

“It was a legendary clubbing experience that my friends and I are not going to forget for a long time to come. As soon as we entered, we could feel the pulse of the party. The music was insane and I loved the visuals that went with it,” shares Mehul, who attended on both days.

The next day was bigger and better, with the party starting at sundown and going on till past midnight. Everybody seemed to be having a good time, with people dancing in the swimming pool and around it, partying like there was no tomorrow.

A lot was in store for the attendees, who refused to take breaks between the sets — from Arjun Vagale, Anil Chawla, Praveen Achary, Tuhin Mehta and even Audio Units, the dancing just did not stop.
But that was all a build up to the last and most awaited, Richie Hawtin, who is a living legend in the global dance community.

This being his first time in Bangalore, he gave a memorable performance and promised to come back soon enough.

“In recent times, Bangalore has become home for EDM. We wanted to create a weekend destination event, offering quality acts for people who understand the music. That’s how ‘Submerge Big Weekend’ was born,” informs Arnold Wilson, the marketing manager at Submerge.

“Richie Hawtin was the perfect DJ to open the doors to this kind of music, while Laidback Luke is one of the most technically sound DJs there is. We’ve had a phenomenal response with a full house on both days,” he concludes.
