Minister opens synthetic hockey stadium

Preparations for Commonwealth games going on as per schedule

The Government is committed to provide basic facilities within the stipulated period, said Union Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports Pratheek Prakash Bapu Patil.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a programme marked to inaugurate SAI synthetic hockey stadium and girls hostel building in Madikeri on Tuesday, he said technical experts and others are making all their efforts to complete all the projects related to Commonwealth games.

The Government has decided to provide highest security to the Commonwealth games scheduled to be held in New Delhi. There is no need to panic over it, he explained.
To a query on sports administrative board in the hands of a few persons, he said the Central government is mulling over bringing about changes. However, if changes are brought in at a time, then it has bad effects on sports. Changes will be introduced at suitable time.

Government wants to support all the sports activities in the rural areas. The Government has decided to revive sports promotion development area.
By implementing the project on 75:25 sharing of Centre and State governments, sports personnel will be encouraged.

Arjun awardee Olympian Dr M P Ganesh appealed to the Minister to release Rs 40 to 50 lakh towards construction of gallery, toilets, dressing room and emergency unit at the synthetic hockey stadium. And the Minister responded positively.

MP H Vishwanath suggested Agrculture University, Bangalore, Coorg Hockey Association and SAI to come into agreement and raise resources for the maintenance of hockey stadium.

Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Dr P G Changappa suggested to maintain the hockey stadium with the help of private partnership.

Coorg Hockey Association President Nellamakkada Mohan Ayyappa, CMC President P D Ponnappa, Karnataka State Hockey Association President R K Shetty, Department of Youth Service and Sports Director Shivananjaiah, SAI (basic facilities development division) Director D V Mangala were present.

SAI Southern centre Director Dr G Kishor welcomed the gathering while SAI Madikeri Training Centre Administrator C A Karumbaiah proposed a vote of thanks.
