Youth injects himself with sleeping drugs

Last Updated 26 February 2013, 20:30 IST

Failing to get heard at a ‘Jan Sunvai’ (public hearing), a 28-year-old youth suffering from food-pipe problem allegedly injected sleeping drugs and fell unconscious at the Indore Collectorate campus here, the police said.

Rajesh Kori was rushed to hospital with the help of tehsildar (revenue official) Bihari Singh and his condition was stated to be stable, Rawaji Bazar police station in-charge Ajit Kumar Patel told PTI. Indore Collector Akash Tripathi was not in his office when the incident occurred, Patel said.

Rajesh, who had once consumed acid and developed food pipe problem after a dispute with his wife in 2009, sells ‘samosas’ on the street, the police station in-charge said, adding that in his appeal, Rajesh had urged the Collector to either provide him with treatment or grant him his wish of “ichcha mrityu” (mercy killing or euthanasia). “Since Rajesh already had an artificial food pipe, he injected some unknown drugs into it which made him unconscious,” Patel said.

“The magistrate has taken Rajesh’s statement at the MY Hospital, in which he confessed to injecting unknown sleeping drugs,” he said, adding a case would be registered tomorrow after further verification. “Neither did I meet Rajesh nor approached him during the ‘Jan Sunvai’ as there were hundreds of applicants gathered in the collectorate hall. I was told after the public hearing that the very man did it outside the hall. I was also told that he is mentally disturbed and had once consumed acid over a family dispute,” Tripathi told.
