CBI raids Kharadapudi;  he goes missing

The CBI raided the houses of Kharadapudi Mahesh, a key aide of former minister Janardhana Reddy, in Hospet on Thursday. 

An eight-member team of officials, led by CBI Superintendent of Police Subramanyeshwara Rao, raided the houses on Bellary Road and J P Nagar at 9 am and inspected the documents. Mahesh fled Hospet on Tuesday itself, when he got wind of the raid. The CBI is investigating the case relating to the missing ore from the Belekeri port in Karwar. 

The officials of the premier investigating agency are camping in front of one his houses. They have decided to stay put at his house till he comes, as he has not appeared for questioning, even after a notice was issued to him six months ago. 

The CBI is also investigating the illegal mining allegedly indulged in by Reddy-owned Associated Mining Company in Ramgad forest area of the district.

The alleged illegalities by Lakshmi Venkateshwara Trading Company, Lakshmi Venkateshwara Steels and Lakshmi Venkateshwara Minerals, owned by Mahesh, are also being probed by the CBI. His houses have been raided many times in the past.

Police sources said that the CBI officials had contacted Mahesh over mobile phone and that he had told them that he had gone out on some work.
