Budget will stoke inflation, says Karat

Last Updated 01 March 2013, 20:35 IST

Criticising the 2013-14 Union Budget, CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat said it will lead to further price rise, and asserted that only the Left parties have the suitable and alternative policy.

Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of the party’s Eastern “Sangharsh Sandesh Jathas” (revolutionary message marches) here on Friday, Karat said: “The Budget has once again proved that this government thinks only about the rich.

Subsidy worth Rs 26, 000 crore has been withdrawn from petroleum, which will eventually lead to further price rise. The Budget has no provision for employment when there is so much unemployment in the country.

People of Tripura have shown the way. Only the Left parties have suitable policies.”
Congratulating the people of Tripura on the historic win, Karat said: “The victory in Tripura is historic because the Left Front has been elected for the fifth successive term. This shows the policies and performance of the Left Front government in Tripura has found wide acceptance among the masses.”

The jatha flagged-off by former West Bengal Chief Minister and CPM Politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee from Kolkata will travel through Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and culminate in Delhi on March 14.
