Home-alone woman murdered

An elderly home-alone woman was hacked to death allegedly for gain at Binnypet on Saturday. The victim is Rajaratnamma, 72, a resident of Binnypet residential area, said the police.

The victim was staying with her daughter Lakshmi, a private firm employee and her son-in-law Shankar, an employee of a jewellery showroom. The murder took place between 2 pm and 6 pm, said the police.

The victim was seen by local residents talking to some neighbours around 2 pm and the murder took place thereafter. The suspects had an easy entry inside the house, it is said. They hacked her with a machete and she died due to massive head injuries.

They robbed around 100 gram of gold ornaments and fled, said the police.

The incident came to light after Lakshmi returned home. The murder is suspected to have been committed by some persons known to the family. The police said that there were some leads and that they would arrest the suspects soon.

Man robbed of cash

Adiseshaiah, 55, a dealer in grocery items, was robbed of Rs 5 lakh in cash by two unidentified men who diverted his attention.A resident of Chennasandra, he had withdrawn the money from Vijaya Bank in Whitefield and was walking towards the parking lot to take his bike out.

Two men pointed to a Rs-100 note on the ground asking him if the money belonged to him. Replying it was his, Adiseshaiah kept his cash bag down to pick the note. The miscreants made use of the opportunity and fled with the cash bag, the police said.

Adiseshaiah alerted the security guards at the bank, but by the time they could react, the duo had vanished.
