JOIN USToroloco fancied to top in Invitation Cup

Bangalore horses Toroloco and Super Storm will be among the favourites in a star-studded field at the Indian Turf Invitation Cup (Grade I) race over 2400 metres, to be held at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club here on Sunday.
To be ridden P Mulrennan and trained by I Ghatala, Toroloco has an impressive track record, registering seven victories out of 11 appearances. With the format of the Invitation Cup revised after much deliberation that allows horses to compete in the coveted race as long as they qualify, the five-year-old gelding will aim to make amends for the runner-up finish to In The Spotlight in last year’s edition.
A proven performer, Toroloco relishes pace and distance and very few would be counting against it in a field that has all the classic winning four-year olds barring Machiavellianism and Red Baron.
However, if there is one horse that can stop Toroloco, it is Super Storm. After finishing second to Red Baron in the Kimmane Bangalore Winter Derby, the Suraj Narredu-trained colt shocked everyone when it pulled off a sensational victory in the McDowell Signature Premier Indian Derby -- the biggest race in the national racing calendar.
To be piloted by Jimmy Fortune yet again, the four-year-old colt could very well create another storm, this time at India’s oldest turf club.
Another horse that holds a lot of promise in the Rs 1.53 crore prize money event is Tintinnabulation. The Hyderabad-based gelding finished second in the Calcutta Derby Stakes before showing its prowess in the Golconda Derby Stakes with a commanding victory. S Padmanabhan-trained Borsalino, winner of the last year’s Bangalore Summer Derby, to be piloted by David Allan, is capable of producing a surprise or two among the 14 horses in the fray.
The winner will take home Rs one crore along with the trophy.
