Central team begins visit to flood-hit areas of Karnataka

The team, dividing itself into three groups, will tour Bellary, Gulbarga, Koppal, Raichur, Bagalkot and Gadag in North Karnataka, besides other parts, official sources said here.


Union Home Ministry Joint Secretary O Ravi is heading the team which will also be interacting with officials before winding up the tour on October 23, the sources said.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Delhi seeking Rs 6665 crore financial assistance for providing relief to nearly 18 lakh people, who were affected by the floods.


The unprecedented rains that pounded in the 18 districts between September 29 to October four claimed 229 lives, besides damaging 6.55 lakh houses.

The Prime Minister has already announced an immediate assistance of Rs 1,000 crore to the state.
