JOIN US Members of the Forum Against EWS Land Grabbers, Bangalore, on Monday, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against eviction of slum dwellers in the City in January.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike evicted as many as 1,200 families from EWS quarters in Koramangala using police force between January 18 and 20.
False cases
Several members were arrested and false cases were foisted against them, said Forum members.
Following a Karnataka High Court order, the residents of EWS quarters were evicted so that nearly 15.64 acres of land could be handed over to Maverick Holdings and Investments Pvt. Ltd.
The protest was organised in association with several Delhi-based organisations. Anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal was one of the speakers during the protest.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum at the office of Ajay Maken, Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
