MLA's absence from meeting irks leaders

Poor SC women not getting legitimate benefits

Dalit leaders took exception to the conspicuous absence of the MLA at the meeting. The members of the committee expressed displeasure over not implementing resolutions adopted in the previous meeting. It was observed that the poor women of Scheduled Caste were not getting legitimate benefits at the Social Welfare Department.

It was decided to seek information from the government on the facilities provided by SC/STs in the taluk. The meeting resolved to ask the Zilla Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Gram Panchayat members to be present in the meeting and give information on the steps taken for uplift of the reserved categories in their respective constituencies.

Taking a note of ostracising dalits in Halekoppa village, the meeting decided to seek more information from the taluk administration on the issue.

Police said that no case has been registered so far as the parties have come forward to settle the dispute amongst themselves. The meeting was told that a meeting of village elders would be called to resolve the issue.

Tahsildar Jayamadhav presided over the meeting. DySP Rajanna, Circle Police Inspector Jaishankar, Nangali PSI Sanjeevaraya, Taluk Panchayat executive officer Sanjappa, dalit leaders Carpenter Krishnappa, Cholanakunti Chalapathi, Peddur Venkataram, Alanguru Ramu and others were present.
