C'magalur awaits 686 candidates' results

Results of eight urban local bodies are likely to be announced by Monday afternoon.

The most awaited results of the eight urban local bodies including the City Municipal Council in Chikmagalur district which went for polls on March 7, will be out on Monday and with it, the future of 686 candidates who contested from 148 wards too will be decided. The results are expected to be announced by afternoon.

It is not only the candidates who fought the election who are eagerly waiting for the results, but also the MLAs of all five constituencies and MLA ticket aspirants who are looking forward for the much awaited results. The future of political parties in all the five assembly constituencies will be dependent on the ULB poll results.

The BJP which holds power in the district including the CMC, will have to win with majority votes in the ULB election to retain its strong hold in the district. On the other hand, the Congress and the JD(S) too are doing their best to come to power in the municipalities, while the new political party like the KJP too has jumped to the fray to put its power to test.

 Counting centres

All arrangements have been made in the poll counting centres in the respective municipal and town panchayats. The counting is scheduled to start at 8 am and is expected to complete by 11 am. The counting of votes of the Chikmagalur CMC will take place at STJ College on Belur Road.

A total of 19 tables have been set for counting of votes of 35 wards, at STJ College. The counting of votes of Koppa Town Panchayat will take place at Koppa Balagadi Government First Grade College, Sringeri TP at Sringeri Mini Vidhana Sowdha, Mudigere TP at Mudigere taluk office, N R Pura TP at N R Pura Mini Vidhana Sowdha, Kadur and Birur TMC at Government PU College and Tarikere TMC at Tarikere Government College.

Betting mania

With only a few hours left for the counting and announcement of results, rumours are making rounds over bettings that are taking place on election results. Bettings are made over winning of different political parties as well as candidates and the difference of votes with which certain candidates will win or lose.

If the BJP is confident of winning CMC with 17 or 18 seats, Congress is expecting to gain 14 to 15 seats. While the JD(S) and the KJP too are confident of gaining nine to 10 seats. According the police Intelligence sources, the BJP is likely to win 14 seats, the Congress to get 12 seats, JD(S) two seats, KJP three seats and independents will win three to four seats.
