Seven injured in lathicharge

Seven people including a women were injured as police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse protestors here on Tuesday.

Farmers had blocked the highway demanding three phase electricity to supply water for crops.

Jayamma, a woman along with farmers Kitti, Yogesh, Athmananda, Aravind, Harsha and Umesh were injured.

According to reports, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) had agreed to supply five hours of three phase electricity, after farmers had laid seige to the CESC office.

As their demands were not met, farmers blocked the highway for more than an hour leading to a traffic jam.

Despite repeated pleas by officials, farmers refused to stop their protest. Police then lathcharged to disperse the gathered crowd.
