Evil in the house

Monster House’ stars Ryan Newman, Steve Buscemi, Mitchel Musso, Catherine O’Hara Fred Willard. In this movie, the house across the street is steeped in mystery to little DJ.
He feels relieved when the cranky old man living there is taken away in an ambulance, following a heart attack. But unfortunately, DJ, Chowder and Jenny find out that the danger is from the house itself — it has plans of eating all the kids who will be trick-or-treating on Halloween night. A turning point in life

Blood In, Blood Out’ stars Damian Chapa, Jesse Borrego, Benjamin Bratt, Enrique Castillo, Victor Rivers, Delroy Lindo and Carlos Carrasco.

This action flick is directed by Taylor Hackford and airs on Zee Studio at 10.30 pm on March 14.

It follows the lives on three Chicaco relatives, who start out as members of a street gang. But after a dramatic incident, their lives are changed forever.

All about martial arts

Bloodsport’ airs on WB at 11.32 pm on March 14. This 1988 martial-arts film, based on the life of Frank Dux (played by Jean Claude Van Damme) is considered a classic by many for its portrayal of a large variety of international fighting abilities — ranging from kung fu to jeet kune do and muay thai.

The story traces the life of Frank Dux, who has spent most his life being trained by Tanaka to participate in the Kumite, the ultimate martial-arts tournament. The competition can get pretty nasty and brutal, where participants are seriously injured and sometimes killed.

Against the advice of his supervisors in the army, Frank decides to participate, knowing very well that he may have to face Chong Li, the killer of a defending champion. In the hope of convincing Frank to drop out, two army officers are sent to get him and the trail leads them to Hong Kong.

A flaw in the plan

Gone in 60 Seconds’ is about a former car thief, known as Memphis, who is forced to return to his former trade and steal 50 cars in one night for a crime boss who is threatening to kill his brother. But Memphis has to contend with detective Roland Castleback — a smart guy who is determined to seek out a flaw in his plan. 

The movie also stars Angelina Jolie as Sway, Robert Duvall as Otto, Eccleston as Raymond Vincent Calitri and the former football player Jones as Sphinx.

Being stuck in a deserted town

In ‘The Band’s Visit’, the Ceremonial Police Orchestra of Alexandria, Egypt, goes to Israel for a gig. But on arriving at the airport, there is neither sight nor sound of their hosts and transportation. The band members are stuck in a deserted town with a lot of time on their hands. That’s when they begin to mingle with the locals and find beds to sleep at residences.

As the days go on, the Egyptian band members and Israeli residents learn a lot about the others’ culture. Catch the movie on UTV World Movies at 9.40 pm on March 14.

Not just a director

Karan Johar is known as a successful director and producer, but Randeep Hooda feels that the film-maker is a talented actor as well. “Karan is a very fine director and I must say he is also a wonderful actor. He knows what he wants from his people. He is the most celebrated director of Bollywood and I am glad that I got to work with him,” says Randeep. The 36-year-old will be seen in Karan’s production venture ‘Ungli’, as well as in his segment for ‘Bombay Talkies’. In ‘Bombay Talkies’, the actor will be seen opposite actress Rani Mukerji. “Working with Rani was such a nice experience. She is a superb actress and it was a pleasure working with her,” says the actor, who won praise for his performance in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai,
Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster and Jism 2.

Back on the silver screen

Mira Nair’s famous debut film, Salaam Bombay — which is about a runaway boy eking out a living as a tea boy in Mumbai’s notorious red-light area — has completed 25 years and is all set to be re-released in the country.

The film won 25 international awards, including two at Cannes — the ‘Camera D’Or’ and the ‘Prix Publique’ (the most popular film in the festival) — upon its release, besides being nominated for the best foreign film at the Academy Awards.

Now, a new generation of movie-goers will have the pleasure of watching the movie on the silver screen once again.
