Change counters at KBS, Shivajinagar

Last Updated 16 March 2013, 19:04 IST

In an effort to put an end to the usual tiff between passengers and conductors over change (coins), the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has opened ‘change counters’ at the Kempegowda and Shivajinagar bus stations to provide conductors with enough coins.

A BMTC official said commuters in recent days tender currencies of Rs 100, Rs 200 and  Rs 1,000 denominations to buy tickets. Due to shortage of change, commuters and conductors get into altercation and many a times conductors force customers to get down from bus for not giving change to buy tickets. Besides, there are instances of conductors not returning the change despite writing the sum due on the back of the ticket, he added.

At present four counters at the KBS and two counters at SBS have been opened wherein conductors can avail change. Based on their success, more change counters will be opened at Jayanagar, Yeshwantpur and Banashankari TTMCs also, he said.

At each counter, staff have been deputed to work in two shifts – from 6 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 10 pm. Conductors can avail change at any point of time between 6 am and 10 pm at these counters.  A circular has been issued to all the depots for the information of conductors to utilise these counters. The Corporation has also asked the conductors to behave politely with the travelling public, said a press release from the BMTC.
