Disabled man found dead

A mentally challenged patient was found dead in mysterious circumstances at Delhi government’s Asha Kiran complex in outer Delhi’s Avantika on Saturday.

Pappu, 22, was found dead in his ward in the morning following which the Asha Kiran authorities informed police and his body was sent to a nearby hospital. Asha Kiran Complex is a centre for people who suffer from mental ailments.

The authorities said he was mentally ill and admitted in Asha Kiran in March 2007. His treatment was going on in Guru Ballabh Pant Hospital.

“We have sent the body for a post-mortem in Baba Saheb Ambedakar Hospital,” a police officer said, adding the matter has also been referred for a judicial inquiry.

This is the fifth death in the shelter home. In January this year, five patients, including three children, have died in the centre within 10 days. In the wake of their deaths, the Delhi government had said they would shift around 500 patients from overcrowded home to other places which are still under construction.
