Robber, family try to foil arrest bid

A police team comprising three officers was attacked when it went to nab a man accused of robbery at north-east Delhis Nand Nagri on Sunday.

Even after getting injured, the officers managed to nab him. On Sunday morning, a police team led by sub-inspector Nitin Kumar along with constables Jasbir Singh and Raju Saini found that a man by the name of Jile Singh, who was involved in a robbery three days ago, was hiding at J Block of Nand Nagri.

They went to his place at 8.45 am to arrest him. Singh lives with his wife Sunita and a daughter. When the police team reached there, they saw that Singh was about to take a scooter belonging to one of his relatives, Amit, and trying to flee. The two constables chased him and he was arrested.

But suddenly, Singh’s daughter came out of the house and threw chilli powder at the eyes of the constables.

Singh managed to get free then. As the sub-inspector ran towards him and tried to nab him, Singh’ wife and Amit stoned him and the other policemen. They even bit the policemen.

Jile Singh also reportedly fired a shot at the sub-inspector, though he managed to duck himself in time. Despite all this, the three officers did not let Singh flee.

Soon, the station house officer of Nand Nagri police station and another team came to the spot after getting information about the scuffle. They finally arrested Singh, his wife and daughter and brought them to the police station. But Amit gave a slip to the cops.
According to police, Sunita was earlier involved five times in trafficking country-made liquor. She married Singh after her husband died.

“A case has been registered under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code against them. All of them have been arrested,” said a senior police officer.

The injured police officers were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where after first-aid they were discharged.
