A 30-year-old cable operator was beaten to death with a baseball bat by his three friends after an argument over a petty issue while they were partying at outer Delhi’s Vijay Vihar on Sunday night, police said.

Identified as Shiv Kumar, the victim lived with his family in Budh Vihar area near Vijay Vihar. He was attacked on his head with a baseball bat, resulting into a severe head injury that eventually claimed his life.

“Two of the accused, identified as Harvinder and Sunil were arrested, following raids. The third accused, Rakesh, is still absconding. We are carrying out raids at various places to nab him,” said a senior police officer.

The officer said the matter came to light after a passerby saw Kumar lying unconscious at an isolated place, a few meters away from his house, and made a call to police.

“We received a call and rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” said the officer.

“A case of murder was registered at Vijay Vihar police station and a team was constituted to probe into the matter,” he added.

During investigation, police found that Kumar was last seen with his three friends, who were absconding since the incident. “We conducted several raids and apprehended Harvinder and Sunil,” the officer said.

During interrogation, police found that Harvinder had an old personal enmity with Kumar because the deceased had lodged a case against him in 2011.
