'20 lakh beneficiaries avail benefits'

District-in-Charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has said that a sum of Rs 173 crore has been utilised under Vajpayee Arogyasri yojana.

Speaking at the inauguration of  Vajpayee Arogyasri mega health camp, at Udupi District Hospital on Sunday, he said that about 20 lakh people have availed the benefits of the scheme. The camp was organised jointly by the district administration, Udupi zilla panchayat, health and family welfare department, Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust.

“The state government has solved the problems pertaining to availing the benefits of the scheme in KMC Hospital in Manipal through mutual understanding. The KMC authorities have agreed to provide treatment. A substantial amount has been earmarked for the health department in the budget.”

Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust divisional advisor Dr Ramesh said that under Vajpayee Arogyasri yojana, a BPL family with five family members can avail treatment upto Rs two lakh. The treatment can be availed in 132 super speciality hospitals including KMC, A J Hospital, Fr Muller Hospital and Yenepoya Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju, ZP President Upendra Nayak, District SUrgeon Dr Anand Nayak, DHO Dr Ramachandra Bayari was present.
