British tourist jumps from hotel window to escape sexual assault

A British tourist jumped from a hotel window in Agra on Tuesday to escape alleged sexual assault. The incident comes a few days after a Swiss tourist was robbed and gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district.

The tourist, who was staying at a hotel in the Idgah area in Agra, jumped from the window of her first-floor room, and suffered injuries on her head and legs. She has been admitted to hospital and is recovering.

The alleged culprit, also the owner of the hotel, has been arrested, according to police sources.

The woman tourist, who arrived in Agra on Sunday, is from London. According to reports, the tourist was to leave for Jaipur in Rajasthan early Tuesday morning. The sources said that the owner of the hotel Sachin Chauhan tried to molest her in the early hours of Tuesday. “Chauhan was insisting on giving her a body massage,” said the sources.
He, however, left after the tourist resisted.

According to the victim, someone again knocked at her door a little later. She thought that Sachin might have returned. Fearing that she could be sexually assaulted, the frightened tourist jumped from the hotel window. The police said that Chauhan was the man who again knocked at her door and this time he was also accompanied by one of the security guards of the hotel.

An autorickshaw driver took the tourist to the police station. She was later taken to hospital.

A case has been registered against the hotel owner and the police are investigating.
Chauhan claimed that the woman had asked him to wake her up at dawn as she was to leave for Jaipur. “I went up to her room and knocked only after she did not respond to my calls made on the intercom,” Chauhan alleged.
