MLA Raghupathy Bhat said the construction works of 400 metre synthetic track to be built at a cost of around Rs 4 crores will be completed by another six months.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone to the proposed synthetic track in Ajjarkadu district stadium, the MLA said that the State government is committed to encourage the sports talents. As many as Rs 3.86 crores is released for the construction of the track. Besides, measures are taken for the construction of a full fledged cricket stadium in Beedanagudde. He urged Sports Minister Appacchu Ranjan to release Rs 3.5 crores, which the Minister had assured during his visit to the district.

Eight tracks

Speaking on the occasion, Youth Services Joint Director J M Appachu said the stadium is built following the rules and size recommended by International Association of Athletics Federation. The work will be completed by 120 days excluding rainy season.

As many as eight tracks with 1.22 m widths and two synthetic dimensions with a radius of 23 metre will be constructed. Arrangements are made for storm water drains inside as well as outside the synthetic track. Besides, chain link fencing is built around the track, he added.

The 400 metre synthetic athletic track will incorporate facilities that are needed to conduct games like long jump, discus throw, javelin and high jump, he added.

Seven stadiums in state have full fledged 400 metre synthetic track which includes Kanteerava stadium, Bangalore; Nehru District stadium, Shimoga; Mangala stadium, Mangalore; Nehru District stadium, Belgaum; K H Patil District stadium, Gadag; Onake Obavva District Stadium, Chitradurga and Kodagu Sports school, Kodagu, Appachu said.
