Even after spending crores for rejuvenating Devikere which was supplying water to Kesavalalu, Daradahalli, Kadidalu, Konageri in Daradahalli Gram Panchayat limits, the water in the tank has gone dry.

Devikere and Mavinaamarada Kere spreads in 10 acre land in survey number 341 and 349 in Daradahalli village. In the name of various development work, a sum of Rs one crore was spent on two lakes in the last 15 years.

However, no ‘rejuvenation’ work has been carried out so far. The water tank is filled with silts. At a few places, the work taken up to rejuvenate is incomplete.

As per the work list of the Zilla Panchayat, the desilting work on the tank was taken up during 1997-98 at a cost of Rs 20 lakkh, in 2004-05 at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, in 2009 at a cost of Rs 18 lakh, and in 2012 at a cost of Rs 15 lakh.

However, the development work has remained incomplete. Owing to the incomplete work, the water has flown from the tank and has gone dry.

The residents of Daradahalli, Kesavalalu, Daradahalli, Kadidalu, Konagiri have been depending on water from the tank. However, with the tank going dry, the villagers have been facing acute shortage of water. The tank was irrigating one thousand acre farm land. However, now the farmers does not have water for agriculture purpose.

Villagers who staged a protest against poor quality of work on Tuesday said that a few influential individuals have encroached the land belonging to the tank. The authorities should initiate measures to reclaim the land. Action should be initiated against erring officials for sanctioning the funds before the completion of the work.
