Youth hacked to death by rival gang

Last Updated 19 March 2013, 20:27 IST

Mohammed Yasin, 20, working at a garments factory, was hacked to death by a rival gang in KG Halli on Tuesday morning, while his elder brother Mohammed Ameen, 22, a painter, who was the gang’s intended target, escaped unhurt fleeing from the attackers.

Likewise, even before the police sprung into action, the gang attacked Irfan Khan alias Boondi Irfan, a chicken shop owner, on KHB Main Road in DJ Halli, and fled the scene leaving him severely injured.

Ameen and Yasin, both residents of Govindapura, were at the Govindapura Cross bus stop, when four masked men came on two bikes and attacked them. While Yasin faced the gang to protect his brother, Ameen took to his heels. Yasin, who suffered injuries on his neck and chest, was taken to Dr B R Amedkar Medical College by assistant sub-inspector Jayaramaiah of KG Halli police station, who rushed to the spot. However, Yasin succumbed to his injuries after battling for life for two hours.

According to Mohammed Matin, the elder sibling of Ameen and Yasin, Ameen, an accused in an attempt-to-murder case, was on his way to the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court to attend his trial.

Old rivalry

Yasin had tagged along with him. Ameen had an old rivalry with Mohammed Toufeeq of the same area, who was into robbery and petty crimes.

Matin said Ameen had identified Toufeeq as leading the assailants. He said the gang’s target was Ameen.

In the other incident, Irfan, who sustained injury on his left arm and chest, was rushed to Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College and later shifted to HOSMAT Hospital, where he is being treated. Eye-witness accounts said Irfan ran out of the shop to the road and a Cheetah police patrol vehicle was approaching from the opposite side. This scared the gang and they fled the scene, leaving Irfan grievously injured.
Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) T Suneel Kumar and Joint Commissioner (Crime-East) S Murugan visited the murder spot.

Special teams
“Four special teams have been formed to investigate the case. We have some definite clues and we are confident of cracking the case at the earliest,” said T G Krishna Bhat, DCP (East).

Police sources said that based on the inputs given by Ameen and other eye-witnesses at KG Halli and DJ Halli, the assailants had been identified as Toufeeq, Aleem, Mushtaq and Hassan, all residents of Govindapura.

The cops have picked one of them, who is said to have revealed the entire plot.
