Melkote all set to host Vairamudi utsav

Five ambulances in place to tackle medical emergencies

Deputy Commissioner B N Krishnaiah said the district administration has geared up to celebrate the world famous Chaluvarayaswamy Vairamudi Utsav at Pandavapura on March 22.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that priority had been given for uninterrupted power supply, drinking water and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. Police security has been beefed up to prevent any untoward incidents and provide necessary security cover.

Steps have been taken to set up mega screens at 10 places to telecast puja and religious programmes to facilitate darshan of the deity by the devotees.

Sound equipments have also been placed at important points in Melkote to provide necessary details, including the importance of the shrine. The Utsav will begin at 8.30 pm and will continue up to 4 am, he added. Traffic police have made necessary arrangements for parking of vehicles. More than 200 women cops will be deputed on the spot to prevent any inconvenience to women.

Bus facility

Special bus services have been arranged from Mysore, Mandya, Hassan, Nagamangala, Bangalore, K R Pet and other places by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Private bus operators too have given permission to ply their buses, the DC said.

Medical facility

Additional medical officers have been deputed to the Melkote hospital during the festival and five ambulances will be in place to tackle any medical emergencies.
Liquor and sale of meat has been banned around eight kilometres radius of the temple; stern action would be taken on those who visit the shrine in an inebriated condition, Krishnaiah added.
