CBI summons YSR aide in Jagan case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which has been investigating Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets case has asked Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao, a close aide of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, to appear before it at 10.00 am on Saturday.

Both YSR and KVP did their MBBS from Gulbarga.

Sources say that KVP who was the government’s adviser during YSR rule will be questioned about the quid pro quo deals.  The move is considered a key turn in the investigation into Jagan’s “illegal assets”. It is a known fact that KVP played a key role in the entire administration when YSR was the chief minister. YSR described him as a his soul.

Animosity towards KVP among inner circles of Congress party was such that apart from the opposition TDP and other parties, parliament members Madhu Yashki and V Hanumanta Rao have been demanding a probe into the role of Ramachandra Rao.

People who wanted an audience with YSR were asked to first see KVP. YSR’s personal secretary Sureedu has confirmed to the CBI.  Though Jagan differed with the Congress high command and launched his own party, being a seasoned person, KVP chose to be loyal to the Congress to steer clear of trouble.

KVP stood behind Jaganmohan Reddy after YSR died in a helicopter crash in 2009. He, however, distanced himself once the latter challenged the Congress leadership and floated his own party. This is the first time KVP was called by the CBI since registering a case against Jagan and 73 others in 2011 following a  probe ordered by the Andhra Pradesh High Court on a petition by some Congress and TDP leaders.

Responding to the notice, KVP said he would fully cooperate with the CBI in the investigation into Jagan’s assets. He said he would inform the agency whatever he knew.
Meanwhile, the TDP has demanded the arrest of KVP and should face probe for alleged income tax violations.
