'Centre should rescue coffee industry'

A delegation led by  Karnataka Growers Federation  met Union Minister Anand Sharma and urged him to come to the rescue of coffee industry.

MPs Jayaprakash Hegde, H Vishwanath and Dhruvanarayana and KGF office-bearers met the minister recently in New Delhi. They said that owing to drought and heavy rains, there has been decline in the coffee production. Shortage of labourers and diseases have affected the coffee. The coffee growers are in crisis and the Centre should come to their rescue.

“Owing to decline in price and production, the small and medium growers are unable to repay the loans,” they said and added that the special package announced by the Centre in 2010 had benefited small growers.

AICC member Motamma, KGF President Dr Pradeep, Coffee board former member D M Vijay, Mudigere Coffee Growers Association president B S Rajaram was present.
