Last Updated 23 March 2013, 20:20 IST

The ‘negligence’ on the part of a Children’s Helpline worker has resulted in the sexual assault on an orphaned girl sheltered in the Balamandira.

According to the complaint lodged at Andersonpet police station, the victim was admitted to the Balamandira and the authorities at the Children’s Home traced the aunt of the girl. The girl was handed over to the custody of her aunt in January. Manjula, a worker with the Helpline, took the girl from her aunt on pretext of obtaining her signature at the office.

Custody

It is said, the girl was then given to the custody of a man, known to Manjula, residing at Whitefield. Manjula, brought the girl back to the Balamandira saying she was an orphan. The sexual assault came to light during the medical examination done at the time of admission. The girl was found to be pregnant.

The superintendent of the Balamandira has lodged a complaint on the statement given by the girl. Manjula has been named as the second accused while the whereabouts of the first accused are yet to be traced.
