‘Deepika and I have moved on’

Actor Ranbir Kapoor, who has teamed up with this ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, says that there was no awkwardness between them while working together as he shares a comfort level with her. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani led to gossip mongers speaking about their getting back together as a couple. But Ranbir is unperturbed by these rumours.

“I don’t take such talk seriously. We don’t come as a package. Deepika and I have moved on as individuals and as actors,” Ranbir says. But isn’t it awkward to work with her? Ranbir replies, “No, not at all. That would be unfair to the film. We are all professionals.”

The 30-year-old, who earlier worked with Deepika in Bachna Ae Haseeno, is full of praises for the actress.

“She is passionate and ambitious. When you come across someone who is as motivated as you are, the experience of working together is terrific. I share a deep comfort level with her,” he says.

After working in Siddharth Anand’s romantic film Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008, Ranbir went on to play a musician in ‘Rockstar’, a deaf-mute guy in Barfi! and a politician in Rajneeti among other roles. But he mostly stayed away from typical romances.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will see him revisit the genre. But Ranbir argues that this isn’t his comeback to romantic cinema. “All my films have had a strong romantic tale underneath. This is the story of a guy who grows up from a 21-year-old boy to a 30-year-old man. It’s an urban film with characters that are closer to today’s youth,” Ranbir says.

Also, Ranbir is back to working with director Ayan Mukherjee after four years (after ‘Wake Up Sid’ in 2009). “In that film, my character was a slacker but in this film, I have found myself. It deals with relationship, heartbreak and the ambitions of four people,” he explains. Produced by Karan  Johar, the film will release on May 31.

Award-winning actress Vidya Balan will be seen in an altogether new look in her upcoming comedy Ghanchakkar and director Rajkumar Gupta has designed a special promotional campaign around this. “Vidya’s look is something
to watch out for in Ghanchakkar and we have an extensive promotional campaign around her look,” says Rajkumar, who has also written the film.

“Vidya’s look in Ghanchakkar will be the most talked-about look in Bollywood this year. Her looks have already generated a lot of appeal across the industry,” he adds. Producer UTV Motion Pictures is planning an exhibition of clothes that Vidya wears in the film.

They will be displayed post the trailer launch, which is slated to come out in March end. Set for a June 21 release, Ghanchakkar will see Vidya with Emraan Hashmi together again.

They had earlier teamed up for ‘The Dirty Picture’, for which Vidya had won the National Award.

This is Gupta’s maiden tryst with comedy after the thriller Aamir and ‘No One Killed Jessica’.

Winning accolades for music

Samhita, a Marathi film directed by the film-making duo Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar, has bagged not one but two national awards this year. But surprisingly, these awards didn’t go to the film-makers.

Instead, the film was lauded for its music — Shailendra Barve shone as best music director and Aarti Tikekar as best female playback singer. The film — which is about an ailing producer who wants his wife to produce a movie on his favourite story — was received well at the MAMI Film Festival in
Mumbai as well.

The flick stars Milind Soman, Rajeshwari Sachdev and Uttara Baokar.

Two looks for Arjun

There’s been a lot of speculation regarding Arjun Kapoor’s look
in his upcoming film, Aurangzeb.

The actor is playing a double role in the movie and accordingly, he has been given two separate looks — both of which were revealed recently.

In one of them, the young actor sports a casual look.

In the other, he is seen wearing formal attire.

However, in both versions, Arjun has an intense demeanour that speaks
volumes of his role in the film.

The film also features Prithviraj, Rishi Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Sikandar Kher, Amrita Singh, Deepti Naval, Tanvi Azmi and Swara Bhaskar and launches Sasha Aagha.
Aurangzeb is slated to release on May 17.

‘I am feeling very good’

Director Sujoy Ghosh, who has won the National award for best screenplay for his film
Kahaani, says the prestigious honour is an appreciation which makes the effort
worth it.

“It feels very good when somebody honours our hard work. Besides, the work is meaningful only when you (the audience) appreciate it. My appreciation does not matter, you have to appreciate it,” the 46-year-old says candidly. “So, if the audience comes to me and says that my work is good, only then is it meaningful.

Now, I am feeling very good,” he says. Sujoy adds that the National Award was never on his mind as making the film itself was a big struggle. “We never thought (of winning the award) because at that time, making the film was the biggest fight.

So, we were all trying to make a good film. We do not know what is going to happen in the future — we didn’t have time to think about that,” he says. Starring Vidya Balan in the lead, Kahaani also won the best actress trophy at most of the film awards last year.
