The Delhi Assembly was adjourned on Monday for half an hour over the arrest of suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant Sayyed Liyaqat Shah.

After the House paid homage to the martyrs of freedom struggle – Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, opposition leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra criticised the people ‘sympathising’ with the terrorists.

“No one should raise questions on the arrest of suspected terrorists. It is the duty of the judiciary. Such incidents pull down the morale of the security forces who are working hard to avert any untoward terror attack in the national capital,” he said.

Mohammad Asif, MLA from Okhla, alleged that the security forces has falsely implicated Liyaqat.

“It is a conspiracy of the Delhi Police sleuths. They wanted to show the arrest of Liyaqat from the guesthouse near Jama Masjid from where they had recovered weapons,” he said. “They are trying to project him as a fidayeen attacker. The whole incident should be investigated.”

All the BJP MLAs strongly opposed the remarks of Asif leading to the adjournment of the House. The house reassembled at 3.20 pm and discussion on budget started.

Earlier, Congress MLA Mukesh Sharma accused the BJP for loosing terrorist Masood Azhar during the hijacking of Indian Airlines aircraft in Kandahar.
