To save himself from four youths in a road rage incident, a businessman’s personal security officer shot at on one of them at south-west district’s Delhi Cantonment on Sunday. The PSO has been arrested.

Vikash, Romin Bharadwaj, Hukum, and Suresh, all aged between 18 to 20, were going towards Naraina on their bikes around 10.30 pm after their day’s work at street food stalls and tea stalls near Sarojini Nagar. They were reportedly riding in a zigzag manner.

A businessman in his car honked to overtake but they did not allow. When the youths reached Ring Road between Dhaula Kuan and Naraina, the businessman honked again.

The youths stopped their bikes and asked the person sitting in the car to come out. As the businessman’s PSO Somdev, 35, came out, they started abusing him and hit him with helmets and kicked him. Somdev of Haryana, however, managed to get inside the car and take out his licenced revolver and shot at Vikash.

A call was immediately made to the police control room.

“We went to the spot and rushed Vikash to Army Base Hospital where he was operated upon, and later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital,” said a police officer.

Vikash received two bullets on his shoulder and wrist and his condition is now stated to be out of danger, the officer added.

A case under the Indian Penal Code has been registered with Delhi Cant police station. Somdev has been subsequently arrested on the spot.

“We still are probing into the case but prima facie it seems the PSO fired to save himself from the youths’ assault,” said the officer.
