Charges levelled against JD(S) DK unit chief

Last Updated 25 March 2013, 20:56 IST

M G Hegde who quit from the JD(S) along with state vice president B Nagaraj Shetty three days ago has lashed out at party District President M B Sadashiv and blamed him for their resignation.

Addressing media persons, Hegde said that he resigned to protest against recent suspension of the party’s district minority cell chief D M Aslam and district general secretary Shashiraj Shetty. Many of Hegde’s supporters, who resigned along with him, were present at the press conference.

Criticising the JD(S) district president for suspending Aslam and Shetty, Hegde claimed that the action was taken against the two as they refused to indulge in anti-party activities. Instead, the two had objected to the behaviour of some of the leaders at the introspection meet held a few days ago.

“Sadashiv and a few other leaders are involved in money-making business and they have no intention to organise and strengthen the party in Dakshina Kannada”.

“Sadashiv is suffering from insecure feeling due to which he along with a few other leaders like Amarnath Shetty have ignored Nagaraj Shetty and Sadananda Shetty,”  Hegde alleged.

He claimed that Sadananda Shetty has decided not to contest the election from Mangalore South Assembly constituency for the same reason.

He accused Sadashiv of misusing party fund given by the state unit for the Mangalore City Corporation election. The money has not been distributed to  candidates who contested the election, he said.

However, he said that he has great regard for JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy. “We decided to tender resignation after the State JD(S) did not respond positively to our demand to suspend Sadashiv from the post of district president. As the 10-day deadline has ended,  the resignation letters were submitted,” he said.

As many as 10 leaders and 50 office-bearers have resigned in the first phase and a few more are expected to quit in the next few days.

Denies allegations

When Deccan Herald contacted, Sadashiv denied all the allegations made  by Hegde.  On the claim that he had received money for distributing to candidates during the MCC polls, Sadashiv said that Hegde and Nagaraj Shetty were given complete responsibility of fighting the MCC election. “They might have received the amount from the state party unit and might not have distributed it to the candidates,” he alleged.

Those who have the resigned had joined the JD(S) with a selfish motive and not with respect for the party ideology. Sadananda Shetty dropped the idea of contesting for the assembly election because of the trouble caused by Hegde     and Nagaraj Shetty, he claimed.
