Tiwary on way to full fitness

Talented right-hand batsman Manoj Tiwary is racing against time to be fit in time for Kolkata Knight Riders’ title defence in the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League.

The Bengal player, who is recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered during his team’s semifinals against Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Visakhapatnam earlier this month, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy here and hopes to be ready in time for KKR’s first game of the season against Delhi Daredevils on April 3.

“Rehab is going really well and I am undergoing a couple of tests on Thursday to get my final fitness report before the IPL,” said the youngster. “I have been batting at the nets from the last five days and I don't feel any discomfort in my shoulder. I am fortunate enough that I injured my left shoulder so I don't have to bother about throwing the ball while fielding.”
Tiwary’s bad run with injuries forced him to miss out on India’s series against England and Pakistan when he sustained a severe side strain.

When asked if he was frustrated with injuries and how they affected his chances of donning the national colours time and again, Tiwary said: “I do get frustrated about it but at the same time I have realised that injuries are part and parcel of any athlete’s career.

If I sit back and look at my life, I am very happy because not many people in the country get an opportunity to play cricket for their state or the country. So it is a challenge for me and I am ready for it. As long as I am fit and my game is good, I am sure that I can come back again. I won't say I have  expectations but I would love to contribute in a consistent way.”
