Back to playing a journalist

Rani Mukerji raked in the praise with her portrayal of a feisty journalist in ‘No One Killed Jessica’. And fans of the actress have reason to rejoice since she is going to take up this role once again in Karan Johar’s segment of the upcoming four-part film, ‘Bombay Talkies’. This time around, she will be sharing screen space with Randeep Hooda.

Rani last worked with Karan in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, where she played a woman whose unhappiness spurs her to indulge in an extra-marital affair. In ‘Bombay Talkies’, her character will be somewhat different — here, she will be playing a sexually repressed housewife and according to a spokesperson for the film, she has done a fine job of pulling off the role.

“Karan is very happy with the outcome,” says a source close to Karan, who goes on to add that Rani’s co-star in the film, Randeep, has matched her stellar performance. “Not only has Rani proven her talent once again, but Randeep — who plays Rani’s husband in the film — has also done a great job,” states the source.

Shot in Bandra and Dahisar in Mumbai, the film also stars Saqib Saleem, who was last seen in the romantic-comedy Mere Dad Ki Maruti.

‘Bombay Talkies’ is being made to celebrate the 100 years of Indian cinema. It has four segments directed by Karan, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap respectively.

Set to release on May 13, the first theatrical trailer of ‘Bombay Talkies’ was recently unveiled to a largely positive response.

Pleased with the remake

Mega star Amitabh Bachchan, who acted in the original version of Zanjeer, is all praises for the way the remake of the hit film is shaping up. He recently saw the trailer of the new version — which is directed by Apoorva Lakhia — and apparently, describes it as “smashing”. He has extended his best wishes to the cast and crew of the flick.
The original Zanjeer, which released in 1973, was Big B’s first major hit. The new version stars Ramcharan Teja, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt in key roles. “Apoorva Lakhia showed me the trailer of Zanjeer’s remake... smashing stuff ... all good wishes to the team cast and crew (sic),” Amitabh posts on a popular micro-blogging site. There is also a Telugu version of the movie titled Toofan.

A little help from daddy

Director Indra Kumar says that he is re-launching his daughter Shweta with
veteran actress Rekha in his directorial venture Super Naani.

“I am very happy that I am re-launching my daughter Shweta with
Super Naani. I am all the more happy that at such a young age, she is sharing screen space with Rekha. It’s a wonderful feeling that she will be seen with Rekha in a complete revamped look,” Kumar admits.

“She made her debut with Himesh Reshmiya in Karzzz,”  says the director. “Unfortunately, the film didn’t work at the box office,” adds the director, who made hits like Dil,
Beta and Masti.

Super Naani — which is about women’s empowerment — is the story of a grandson who inspires his grandmother to do something worthwhile in life.

Sharman Joshi is essaying the role of Rekha’s grandson in the film, which is slated for an August release.

Kumar says that Shweta will be seen as Sharman’s love interest in the film
and adds, “There is a wonderful chemistry between both of them.”
Super Naani also features Anupam Kher.

An edgy look for Shahid

Shahid Kapoor has been sporting a sexy stubble for a while now and apparently, this look is for his next film Rambo Rajkumar. A source says that it was decided to give Shahid this look because it made him look edgier, besides which he
admitted that he liked it. “He has been sporting stubble these days. This is giving Shahid an edgier and rougher look. It is sort of adding to his persona and he even expressed that he likes wearing stubble. He will be sporting this rustic look in Rambo Rajkumar,” explains the source. The lead actor of films like Jab We Met and Kaminey, Shahid is being directed by Prabhu Deva in Rambo Rajkumar. Meanwhile, Shahid’s stylist Kunal Rawal got so impressed with the actor’s new look that the designer asked him to walk the ramp for him at an ongoing fashion week. The 32-year-old apparently worked extra hours to wrap up his shoot in Cape Town to attend the fashion show.

‘I want to work with Vidya Balan’

Actor and director Kunal Roy Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of his film Nautanki Saala, is scripting his second film as a director and says it will be a social satire. His directorial debut, ‘The President Is Coming’ was also a satirical ‘mockumentary’ — it seems Kunal has a fondness for this genre. “I am scripting my second film as a director and it’s a sort of social satire, a dark comedy kind of a film. The film should roll by the end of the year. I am looking forward to the film,” Kunal shares. His brother Siddharth Roy Kapoor is married to acclaimed actress Vidya Balan. When asked whether he would be willing to cast Vidya in the film, he replies, “I want to work with Vidya Balan but right now — for this film — she won't be there. I will have to come up with some convincing script, which could justify her. I want to direct her in future but nothing right now.”
Apart from Nautanki Salaa, Kunal has acted in Delhi Belly and ‘Loins Of Punjab Presents’. Directed by Rohan Sippy, Nautanki Saala will see him teaming up with Ayushmann Khurrana, Pooja Salvi and Evelyn Sharma. The film is slated to release on April 12.
