Dist credit plan: Rs 3,802 cr for priority sector

Plan to cover 4.03 lakh beneficiaries in the district

State Bank of Mysore has proposed Rs 4,692.6 crore credit plan for the district, for the year 2013-14. Of the credit amount announced, about 81 per cent (Rs 3802.6 crore), will be given to priority sectors, including agriculture, housing and education.

The credit plan shows an increase of 21.73 per cent over the previous year. General manager of State Bank of Mysore, D K Lakshmisha said that the lead bank, under District Credit Plan had projected a lending programme of Rs 1,150 crore for the priority sectors, which accounts for 30.24 per cent of total priority sector plan of the district. The credit plan has also projected a sum of Rs 1,360.4 crore towards crop loan during the year 2013-14.

Lakshmisha lamented the decline in recovery of bank dues, while expressing happiness regarding financing of Self Help Groups (SHG), with over 95 per cent repayment.

Priority sector

Out of the total credit outlay of Rs 3,802.6 crore for priority sector, the share of agriculture sector stands at Rs 1,736.4 crore, while the total outlay for other priority sectors like self-employment, education and housing stood at Rs 2,066.2 crore. The priority sector credit outlay would cover 4.03 lakh beneficiaries in the district. About Rs 890 crores has been placed for non-priority sector, which has 0.34 lakh beneficiaries. Lakshmisha said that in compliance with RBI’s plan for coverage of all villages with more than 2,000 population, efforts were being made to cover all the villages in the district. He said that the district had recorded one bank account for every family in the district. He said that business correspondents are also being introduced in villages, which did not have a bank branch.

Sampoorna village

He said that sampoorna village concept adopted in the district was a unique programme for all round development. Under the programme Sampoorna Swachatha would be executed by zilla panchayat, solarisation will be implemented under National Bank for Rural Development, coverage of insurance and banking facilities to all, will be handled by the banks.
