Enraged over alleged police inaction after gang rape of a minor at a village in Chandauli district, a mob went on a rampage torching vehicles and ransacking a police station and revenue court on Thursday.

The mob also blocked the national highway and clashed with the security personnel. Several people, including policemen have been injured in the clash.

According to reports, a 14-year old girl of Uraon village in the district was allegedly gang raped by five youths on Wednesday night.

Three of them are from the same village and were recognized by the victim.

The family members of the victim reached Sakaldiha police station late on Wednesday night and asked the cops to register a case against three youths who were identified and two others, who were unidentified, sources said.

However, police allegedly asked the family members to leave and said they would look into the matter on Thursday.

People block highway

As the news of police inaction spread, a large number of villagers came out on the streets and blocked the highway near Alinagar early on Thursday morning.

Security personnel, who arrived at the spot later, tried to remove the blockade by force.
The mob then went on the rampage and torched several vehicles and ransacked the police station and the nearby revenue court premises.

Situation under control

Additional security personnel had to be rushed to the spot from nearby districts to control the situation.

The situation was stated to be tense but under control.

Additional director general of police, law and order, Aun Kumar said here that a probe had been ordered.

“The role of police will also be probed and stern action will be taken against the cops found guilty,” Kumar said.
