The district crime detection squad personnel arrested Mukkad Venkatesh, supporter of minister Varthur Prakash, his sons, Harikrishna and Muralikrishna on charges of issuing threats to Ashwathamma, of Harati village in the taluk.

Ashwathamma in her complaint to the rural police has stated that her son Gopal and Venkatesh had business dealings. Recently, the accused had abused Ashwathamma at her residence and issued threats to her life. Following which, she lodged a complaint with the police.

It is said that Gopal had approached police higher-ups suspecting that the district police may not arrest Venkatesh as he enjoys “influence” in political circles. Following the directions of senior police officers, the rural police arrested Venkatesh in a late-night development.

Venkatesh, who is in judicial custody, has been admitted to the district hospital, as he complained of chest pain. His two sons are also in custody, said sub-jail superintendent Keshavachari.

Complaint against PSI

M Ambarish, sub-inspector at the City police station, has been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.

The PSI has also been charged with working in favour of Mukkad Venkatesh, who has been arrested on charges of issuing life threats, said Ramnivas Sepat, Superintendent of Police.

“Following the complaint filed by Venkatesh, Ambarish had arrested an innocent young supporter of Harati Gopal from Bangalore. The matter was investigated, following which, Ambarish has been suspended,” said Sepat.

It may be recalled that Ambarish had been accused of bias in functioning during the recent municipal elections and had also been taken off election duty, along with other officers.
