Harsha Gupta takes charge as the 124th DC of DK

New Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Harsha Gupta has hinted of introducing a few innovative methods for the better monitoring of upcoming assembly election.

Addressing media persons on Friday, Harsha Gupta who took charge as the DC on Thursday, said that the district administration will ensure free and fair election by giving top priority to voters’ participation and strict implementation of model code of conduct. In order to offer a people-friendly administration, the ambit of existing district control room will be strengthened. Steps will be taken to introduce a system of transfering calls from the district control room (1077) to the officers concerned, with the use of advanced technology. With the new system, the general public can not only share election related complaints, but also communicate other grievances related to the administration, the DC said.

Requesting the people to add their names in the voters’ list, he said April 7 is the last date for adding or deleting names from the voters list. The voters should make use of the provision. The committees and officers appointed for overseeing the election process will strictly ensure that double voting and fake voting from people outside the state will not take place.

When asked about the complaints received regarding the violation of model code of conduct, the DC said three compliants have been received so far. Answering to a query on the transfer of officers on election duty who have been serving in DK from last three years, he said the list of such officers will be sent to the Election Commission within two days.

DK’s 124th DC

A 1997 batch IAS officer Harsha Gupta, took charge as the 124th deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada. He was serving as the labour commissioner prior to his current posting.

He has earlier served as the chief executive officer of Bellary Zilla Panchayat, deputy commissioner of Chamarajanagar, Chikmagalur, Bellary, Shimoga, Mysore and Bidar districts, apart from serving as the joint commissioner of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and managing director of Karnataka Milk Federation. Upon taking charge as the DC, Harsha Gupta said that having started his career as assistant commissioner of Puttur 14 years ago, it is like home coming for him.
