Online shopping portal officials held for fraud

The director and chief operations officer of an online shopping portal have been arrested for cheating several customers by not providing them goods ordered despite making advance payment.

Arindam Bose, the director of “timtara.com”, and his associate Harish Ahluwalia, were arrested from Sector-63 in Noida on Friday on the basis of over 200 complaints filed against them from all across the country.

“The victims claimed that they had paid money online through credit card for various items. However, despite repeated requests and follow-ups, the goods never arrived,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Economic Offences Wing) S D Mishra.

“The company in fact shutdown their front office in Sector-8 and changed their location to avoid detection and confrontation with customers,” the official said.

The online retail website, www.timtara.com, claimed to sell various products like cameras, mobile phones, home appliances etc, at prices below the market rate.

During investigations it was revealed that the portal was actively engaged in online shopping fraud.

“A large number of customers have been cheated on account of providing products cheaper than the market rate. Most of the victims were lured by the misleading advertisements, high discount offers and false representations on the website,” Mishra said.
