The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has for the first time, lodged a police complaint against a property owner for having an illegal water connection. The step is part of the special drive being conducted by the BWSSB aimed at disconnecting illegal connections.

The property owner, Kiran, owns a residential building at Harinagar Main, Chunchanaghatta Cross (No 29/1) with three individual housing units. However, a single water connection used to serve all the three houses, which was illegal.

Notice given

The BWSSB had earlier sent him a notice, warning him about the illegal connection. “We gave him sufficient time to regularise the connection but he chose not to do anything about it. Hence we lodged a police complaint. We want legal action to be taken against him,” said B K Nagaraj, Assistant Executive Engineer, BWSSB.

The complaint has been lodged at the Subramanyapura police station.

Regularising

The BWSSB is on a massive drive to regularise illegal water connections and has, to date, disconnected up to 5,000 illegal connections in the City.

“People need to get proper meters as soon they get a Cauvery water connection. Many of them fail to do so even after repeated efforts from our side. We conduct meter melas and even do regular checks ups but many owners don’t pay us any heed,” Nagaraj said.
