JOIN USIn a bizarre incident, a man in Punjab’s Patiala has inflicted serious injuries on his six-year-old son after the child reportedly insisted on meeting his mother. The man had separated from his wife a few years ago.
The local police registered a case against the man, Baljit, on Sunday and the boy was shifted to hospital for treatment for shock and injuries.
According to sources, Baljit separated from his wife and started living separately in 2006. His wife handed over the child’s custody to Baljit in October 2012 following court orders. Both filed a case for divorce by mutual consent in a Patiala court which directed Baljit to allow his wife to meet their child every month, which allegedly did not happen.
The brutality began in October last year when the boy reportedly began insisting on meeting his mother. Baljit inflicted several cuts on various parts of the boy’s body, including private organs, using shaving blades. He extracted his son’s teeth with pliers and denied the boy food for days together. Baljit also kept his son locked inside a toilet. The boy was rescued at the insistence of his mother when he was brought to the Patiala court.
According to the boy’s uncle Sandip, Baljit had allegedly covered the cuts with chocolate when he brought his son to the court on Saturday. Patiala SSP Gurprit Gill said the police had recorded the statement of the victim and an investigation was underway.
