Editor of local news agency arrested for ISI links

Acting on information provided by intelligence agencies, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of police raided the house of Farooq Ganaie in Lower Roopnagar areas in Jammu city and arrested him yesterday, they said.

Ganaie is the editor of News Agency of Kashmir (NAK), which he set up three years ago, they said, adding that his office was sealed and all computers and records were seized.

He was also the media cell head of a prominent political party in the state and is the son of former minister Akbar Ganaie, also the district president of a ruling party in Anantnag.

He is being questioned in this regard, they said, alleging that preliminary investigation indicated that Ganaie had come in close contact with ISI and the Pak army during his visit to Pakistan last year.

The officials said that a case against him has been registered under the Enemy Act and IT Act for further investigations.

Some incriminating emails, photographs of sensitive establishments and other material were recovered from his laptop, they said, alleging that he was passing information to to enemies under the cover of news agency.
