JD(U) to field young turks

Last Updated 03 April 2013, 19:21 IST

JD(U) leader M P Nadagouda, who was re-elected as the State unit president on Wednesday, said the party would field candidates from all 224 constituencies with a focus on youth.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Nadagouda said youth who shared the party’s ideology is secularism, decentralisation of power, internal democracy among others were showing keen interest in the party.

He said the party would release its first list of candidates in the next few days. The JD(U) had failed to win any seat in the 2008 polls. However, Nadagouda said the party would emerge as the “dark horse” this time as the electorate had been disenchanted by the alleged corrupt activities of the BJP, the Congress and the JD(S).

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and party national president Sharad Yadav would campaign in the State, he added.

Sources said Nadagouda would contest from Bagalkot Assembly Constituency. The KJP and Raitha Sangha are unlikely to field candidates in support of Nadagouda. Former minister B Somashekar will be contesting from Malavalli constituency.
