Kingfisher staff in Bangalore to demand salary arrears

Last Updated 03 April 2013, 20:12 IST

Employees in Bangalore of the grounded Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) have decided to participate in a protest being planned across many centres, following consultations with their colleagues in Mumbai and meeting with senior labour department officials here.

“We will stage a protest in all the major cities across the country over the issue of non-payment of salaries,” a source said, without confirming the date. “It will be held shortly,” he said.

While the employees have not filed any official complaint with the labour department here, sources said that they were in talks with employees from other centres to see if they could file a joint application from all the centres.

“If there are no such provisions, then we will do it individually,” the source said.

KFA unaware

Replying to Deccan Herald’s query on Monday, a KFA spokesperson had said late in the evening that the company was not aware of any such developments from the employees’ side. The company, late on Tuesday, is said to have remitted the salaries for two months.

Protests by employees over unpaid salaries had resulted in aviation regulator Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ground the airline last year. Reports indicated that the employees were contemplating filing a public interest litigation, however, employees in Bangalore could not confirm the same.
