Last Updated 08 April 2013, 20:34 IST

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday said the State government would take steps to investigate the Bidar incident, wherein three seers allegedly committed suicide by self-immolation inside their Mutt.

Shettar said the demise of the senior seer, the disappearance of another seer and the self-immolation of three junior seers of Chowli Mutt was intriguing. “I have directed the district officers to collect all information on the incident. We will find out the truth,” Shettar told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.

CM expresses regret

In a press statement issued later in the day, Shettar said it was most unfortunate that the three junior seers had to resort to self- immolation.

“The reason for this shocking incident is said to be the unbearable loss felt by the junior seers due to the demise of the senior seer Ganeshwara Avadhoota Swami. It is a tragic incident because the sanyasis have to transcend the turbulence of life,” the statement said. Home Minister R Ashoka said the government would order a suitable probe into the incident after getting more information.
