Much-talked about cameo

Former ‘Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has landed a cameo role in the hit US TV series Gossip Girl. The singer-turned-designer, 35, was persuaded to appear on the show by its star Blake Lively, who is a big fan of her outfits, and she flew to New York to film all the scenes for her special appearance in a day.
“Blake and co-star Leighton Meester are fans of Victoria’s designs, and have both worn her dresses. Blake attended the unveiling of Victoria’s new collection in New York last month, alongside the series’ stylist Eric Damen. The trio started chatting and Victoria revealed she was a huge fan of the show. From here, Blake pleaded with her to guest star in an episode and ran the idea past producers,” said a source.
Talks were held although Victoria had a few conditions. “She isn’t an actress and wanted her role to be very tongue-in-cheek. And an idea for her to play Brit actor Ed Westwick’s long-lost mother was quickly vetoed. Victoria joked that she’d rather play his ex-love interest.” Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of privileged teens at an elite private school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Victoria will wear one of her own designs during the show.

Recession and reality bites

When London Dreams was planned on a lavish scale, recession forced director Vipul Shah to reconsider costs. His leading stars, Salman and Ajay Devgan opted for a 25 per cent pay cut, instead of compromising on the film. When Vipul Shah took over London Dreams from Rajkumar
Santoshi, at the behest of Salman Khan, the film was hot property because these two actors were coming together after a gap of ten years.
In fact Vipul had an offer of Rs 140 crores from a film corporation for the world wide rights, even before he had finished shooting. However the deal fell through because a few days after Vipul had negotiated the deal, the global economy turned shaky.
