CM possible blast target: Cong

The chief minister was right there at the venue, and he might have been the target. That angle has to be looked into thoroughly by the police, Goa Law Commission chairman and Congress spokesman Ramakant Khalap said.

“The fact is, I was present there with BJP MLA Dhamu Naik and we were close to where the bomb went off. There were 5,000 other people around,” Kamat had told journalists. He was watching the Divali eve celebrations on the road and saw the two injured Sanatan Sanstha men being lifted and rushed to hospital. Elected thrice from Margao, Kamat has the backing of a large minority vote there.

A former Union law minister, Khalap said the Sanatan’s hardline philosophy propagated through its publications and preaching was not conducive to democracy and peaceful co-existence. Two people from the ultra-right organisation were found with the improvised explosives devices. There cannot be smoke without fire, he said.
