Last Updated 27 October 2009, 17:11 IST

“The disruption in power supply since the past week has inconvenienced both farmers and city-dwellers. When this was brought to the notice of Bescom MD Tushar Girinath, he assured us that this would be corrected.”

He added that he also met senior Bescom officials and apprised them of the problems caused by the unscheduled load shedding. “We have made aware of the problems that could follow if the farmers resort to agitation demanding regular power supply,” he said.
Bachhegowda also added that the officials were made aware of the problems of the farmers, who are completely dependent  on ground water for their irrigation purposes.
“The officials have informed us that the power disruption was caused due to stoppage of power production in the Raichur Thermal Power Plant ,” Bachhegowda said and added that the regular power supply would be restored as the thermal plant was expected to start  functioning from Tuesday.

Meanwhile, protest rallies were carried out

Meanwhile, taluk panchayat President Nalinagowda, Vice President Gangadharappa and several members lay siege to the Bescom office here on Tuesday.
They vented their ire about the unscheduled power cuts and warned that the TP members would call for a massive and violent agitation in behalf of the farmers if the power supply was not restored within 24 hours.
