An icy creamy heaven

Besides the traditional ice creams, a variety of unconventional flavours are available in the market this season.

Summer is here and all we want is a tub of fresh creamy ice cream before and after every meal. At the same time, ice cream makers are also getting creative and innovating with their flavours like never before.

Gone are the days of the three standard flavours: vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. These days, you have a mind-boggling array ranging from fruity, chocolaty, honey-based, liquor-centred, dry-fruit sprinkled, gelato and plain.

Metrolife surveyed a few ice cream stores in Delhi and came up with these sweet ‘flavourful’ discoveries just for you.

Thanco’s Natural Icecream, which is pretty popular in southern India, has recently opened its first outlet in Delhi. You can find some unusual and yet yum ice cream flavours at their Rajouri Garden outlet.

These include: paan, mirchi, ginger, pedha and green tea. In fruity flavours, they have chickoo, papaya, litchi, alphonso mango, green grapes, kala jamun, guava etc. In dry fruits, their line-up boats of apricot, anjeer, roasted almonds, kaju gulkand, kesar nuts, fig and honey and malai kulfi.

Franchise owner Kunwar Kukreja takes the opportunity to inform us, “Our best selling flavours currently are tender coconut and sitafal. Customers have become very demanding and they know exactly which flavour they want. The fact that our ice creams are 100 per cent vegetarian and free from any preservatives, colours as well as gluten is an added advantage.”

The American ice cream major Häagen-Dazs has also come out with some heavenly combinations in chocolate. Their new range of premium ice creams - Secret Sensations – has a heart of molten sauce.

Chocolat Fondant has a spongy texture of chocolate cake, bits of brownie and a warm fluid chocolaty core. On the other hand, Crème Brulee incorporates crunchy caramelized sugar bits in a creamy custard ice cream concealing a smoky caramel sauce at its core. You can find them at all leading ice cream stores.

In case you are tempted to have the varieties at the same time, try Nirula’s new All American Banana Split – a combination of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, chocolate syrup, strawberry and banana bits, cherries, peanuts and whipped cream. Simply sinful!
